Job Description:
Progress Teachers are working with a highly regarded Specialist SEN School in Nottingham to recruit an experienced and passionate ASC Specialist Teaching Assistant.The school supports pupils aged 4 to 19 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) as well a range of associated learning and communication needs.
This is a full-time role for someone who is committed, patient, and enthusiastic about making a real difference in the lives of young people with additional needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Assist teachers in delivering structured, engaging, and differentiated learning activities
- Implement strategies to promote positive communication, independence, and social interaction
- Support emotional regulation and wellbeing using positive behaviour support techniques
- Help to create a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure a consistent approach
- Contribute to classroom preparation, record-keeping, and progress reviews
Requirements
- Previous experience supporting young people with ASC or complex communication needs (essential)
- A nurturing, patient, and adaptable approach to working with children and young people
- Strong understanding of autism support strategies, including PECS, Makaton, or sensory-based approaches (highly advantageous)
- Relevant qualification such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, or equivalent
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary SEN team
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
