Job Description:
Location: Coalville, Leicestershire - hybrid working is available, although more onsite time will be required during the initial training period.
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Full time, 36.25 hours
Salary: An annual salary of £28,598 (role also includes a market supplement enhancement)
Job purpose: The role of the internal audit assistant is critical to the continued success of the shared audit partnership with both Blaby District Council and Charnwood Borough Council. As part of the team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with regulations, internal controls and in safeguarding the Councils’ assets. You’ll collaborate with auditees, conduct thorough audits, assess risks, and ensure compliance with regulations at all three authorities.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- To assist with the planning and execution of audits, evaluate systems, controls and compliance and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with auditors to execute audit engagements, assess risks, and document findings, making use of systems and methods to meet the required deadlines.
- Providing advice and guidance on the Council’s policies and procedures as needed.
- Supporting counter-fraud work by having a good awareness of fraud risks and, if required, supporting other staff with their investigations.
- Taking responsibility for your personal development, ensuring technical knowledge is kept up to date and mandatory training is completed.

Qualifications:
- AAT qualified or IIA part qualified
- Previous demonstrable experience working within internal audit for a local authority or similar
