Job Description:
An exciting opportunity has opened for a Brakes Foundation Engineer to join a leading automotive organisation on a contract basis. This role focuses on automotive brake system design, development, testing and validation across ABS, ESC, hydraulic and regenerative braking technologies. You will work within a fast-paced engineering environment, supporting vehicle programmes and delivering high-quality braking performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute vehicle-level brake testing including ABS, ESC, hydraulic and regenerative systems.
- Support design and development activities for foundation brakes, brake components and mechanical systems.
- Create and interpret 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D CAD models using CATIA V6 / 3DX.
- Analyse test data from vehicle runs, HIL rigs and simulation environments.
- Validate braking performance against functional, safety and regulatory criteria.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in controls, calibration, systems and manufacturing.
- Support engineering change, issue resolution and design optimisation activities.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong background in automotive braking systems, foundation brakes or chassis brakes.
- Proven experience in brake design, development and mechanical systems engineering.
- Skilled in CATIA V6 / 3DX, 3D CAD and detailed 2D drawings.
- Understanding of manufacturing methods, DFM and design optimisation.
- Experience with brake system verification, component testing and vehicle-level validation.
- Able to use structured problem-solving techniques and manage multiple projects.
Desirable
- Knowledge of Agile, JIRA, HIL testing or simulation environments.
- Mechanical or automotive engineering degree.
