Brick Laying & Construction Instructor

Job Description:

Supply Star Recruitment are recruiting on behalf of a provision in Coventry who require a Brick Laying & Construction Instructor to join their team.

You will initially be required to work through Supply Star Recruitment on a probationary period, however on successful completion of this period you will be offered a permanent contract.

The school specifically support learners with Mental Health Needs and ideally would like to appoint someone with the relevant knowledge of Social Emotional and Mental Health Needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver practical bricklaying and basic construction lessons tailored to small groups with diverse SEMH needs.
• Teach essential skills such as brick bonding, mortar mixing, site safety, basic carpentry, and tool use.
• Create a safe, supportive workshop environment with a strong focus on health and safety.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with learners, modelling professional behaviour and high expectations.
• Adapt teaching approaches to meet individual emotional and learning needs.
• Work collaboratively with the wider staff team to support personal development and wellbeing.
• Maintain workshop equipment, tools, and materials.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

• Experienced in bricklaying or general construction (minimum 3–5 years preferred).
• Confident working with young people who have SEMH or behavioural needs.
• Calm, consistent, and resilient, with excellent communication skills.
• Passionate about vocational education and supporting learners to develop confidence and employability skills.
• Organised, safety-conscious, and able to plan engaging practical lessons.
• Ideally holding (or willing to work towards) a teaching, assessor, or training qualification such as AET, DET, or equivalent.

You must have a clear DBS certificate to be considered for this role. If you do not have one Supply Star Recruitment can support you in obtaining one at a cost of £63.
