Deputy Home Manager – Residential Children’s Services
Hinckley, Leicestershire
£15.60 per hour (+ 50p supplement for Level 5 qualified staff)
Potential of an additional £3250 - £6500 per year for sleep in’s
We are recruiting a Deputy Home Manager on behalf of a well-established provider of therapeutic residential care for children and young people aged 5–18 with complex needs arising from trauma, abuse, and adversity.
This is a senior role within a children’s home, supporting the Registered/Service Manager with the day-to-day operation of the service and the delivery of high-quality, child-centred care in line with Children’s Home Regulations, safeguarding standards, and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead shifts and oversee daily operations when on duty
- Support children’s emotional, physical, and psychological wellbeing
- Implement and review care plans and maintain accurate records
- Safeguard children and manage challenging behaviour using therapeutic approaches
- Supervise, mentor, and support residential staff
- Support recruitment, induction, rotas, and staff development
- Act as deputy in the Service Manager’s absence, including on-call duties
- Work collaboratively with external professionals and placing authorities
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding, regulatory, and health & safety requirements
Essential Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Residential Childcare / Children & Young People
- Minimum 5 years’ residential childcare experience
- Experience supervising staff
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding and children’s residential regulations
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour safely and therapeutically
- Flexible approach to rota-based shift work
- Excellent communication skills
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- NVQ Level 4 in Leadership/Management (or willingness to work towards)
- Deputy or senior experience in a children’s home
- Trauma-informed or therapeutic practice experience
