
Electrical Project Engineer – Industrial Electrical Automation
A well‑established engineering business in the East Midlands is looking for an Electrical Project Engineer to support the delivery of electrical and mechanical automation projects within the food, drink and parcel handling sectors. The company works on customer sites across the UK (with occasional overseas work) and offers ongoing professional development to people who are passionate, flexible and committed, with a flair for innovation.
The role
Reporting to a Project Manager, you will provide technical and budgetary support for the successful delivery of commercially viable projects of varying size and complexity. You will be involved from quotation and design development through procurement, installation, testing, documentation and commissioning, ensuring all work is compliant with current legislation and client requirements.
Key responsibilities
Prepare and support the preparation of commercially sound quotations.
Support projects throughout their lifecycle to successful completion.
Work closely with design/technical teams, site installation teams and manufacturing/assembly functions.
Adopt and promote safe systems of work (RAMS) and comply with Permits to Work on client sites.
Complete assigned tasks to agreed schedules, reporting any issues, risks or variations.
Ensure all tools, test instruments and equipment are appropriately certified and calibrated.
Maintain positive, professional relationships with client representatives and other third parties.
About you
You are an experienced Project Engineer with a strong background in electrical engineering and industrial automation/process control. You are comfortable working on live industrial sites and supporting both the technical and commercial aspects of projects.
You can:
Draw on 5+ years’ experience of industrial electrical installations and project delivery.
Demonstrate hands‑on experience in design development, procurement, installation, testing, documentation and commissioning of electrical systems with a significant process control element.
Provide clear technical guidance to installation engineers and contractors during installation and commissioning.
Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues and suppliers, both on site and in the office.
Work as part of a multi‑disciplinary project team while remaining customer‑focused.
You will also have:
A full, clean UK driving licence (a company vehicle is typically provided for site work).
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
A proactive, team‑oriented attitude and flexibility to travel to client sites across the UK (and occasionally overseas).
Qualifications & certifications
Essential:
NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installations (or equivalent).
AM2.
18th Edition (current Wiring Regulations).
Level 3 Electrical Inspection and Testing (or equivalent).
Desirable:
BTEC HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering.
ECS Gold Card – Registered / Installation Electrician.
MEWP / IPAF 3a, 3b (or equivalent).
SSSTS or similar site supervision/health & safety qualification.
Location:
Hinckley, Leicestershire, with regular travel to customer sites across the UK and occasional overseas assignments.
