
Head of Safety, Health, Environment & CDM
We are seeking an experienced Safety, Health, Environment and CDM leader to provide strategic oversight across a group of organisations operating within the construction and built environment sector. This role will work closely with senior leadership to develop, implement and continuously improve safety, health and environmental management systems while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the organisation’s Safety, Health and Environmental Management System.
Develop and deliver an annual SHE action plan aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
Provide expert advice and guidance on health, safety, environmental and CDM regulations across the organisation.
Lead and develop a small specialist SHE team, ensuring effective support and guidance across multiple business areas.
Promote a positive safety culture through behavioural safety initiatives, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Monitor and support CDM duty holders, including designers and contractors, ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations.
Oversee risk management, auditing, reporting and performance monitoring relating to SHE activities.
Lead incident and accident investigations, ensuring lessons learned are embedded into systems and processes.
Maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, regulators, supply chain partners and industry bodies.
Support, coach and mentor colleagues to build SHE leadership capability and competence across the organisation.
About You
NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) in Safety, Health and Environment.
Professional membership of a recognised body (e.g. CMIOSH or similar).
Significant experience in a senior SHE role within the construction sector.
Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations and their practical application.
Experience working with ISO management systems such as ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
