HV Installation Supervisor

The HV Installation Supervisor is a hands-on, site-based role responsible for supervising and coordinating high-voltage installation works on substations and related projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate on-site installation activities for HV substation equipment, including transformers, switchgear, busbars, disconnectors, circuit breakers, and control panels.
- Lead and support installation teams, ensuring correct methods, sequencing, and quality standards are maintained.
- Remain hands-on where required, assisting with HV equipment installation, cable installation, terminations, and jointing (where qualified).
- Monitor daily progress against work plans and report installation status to project engineers or site management.
- Ensure all installation works comply with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements, company procedures, and statutory regulations.
- Carry out site briefings, toolbox talks, and task-specific risk assessments.
- Review and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and single line diagrams (SLDs) to guide installation activities.
- Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities in coordination with commissioning engineers.
- Oversee isolation, earthing, and switching activities under permit-to-work systems (where authorised).
- Identify and resolve installation issues on site, escalating technical concerns where necessary.
- Ensure accurate completion of installation records, test data, permits, and site documentation.
- Liaise daily with engineers, other supervisors, subcontractors, and clients to ensure installation quality and programme targets are met.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are available, correctly used, and maintained in a safe condition.

Qualifications & Experience
- Recognised Electrical Trade Qualification / NVQ Level 3 / Electrical Apprenticeship or equivalent.
- Proven experience installing HV substation equipment (typically 11kV-400kV).
- Previous experience in a lead fitter, chargehand, or installation supervisory role.
- Strong technical knowledge of HV equipment, switchgear, control systems, and installation practices.
- Competence in supervising safe systems of work and enforcing electrical safety standards on site.
- Ability to communicate clearly with installation teams and engineering staff.
