Lead Engineer - Body in White

Job Description:

Lead Engineer BIW (Body in White) – Automotive | CATIA V5/V6 | Contract | Office Based

We are recruiting a BIW / Body in White Lead Engineer for a leading automotive OEM programme focused on mid and luxury passenger vehicles. This is a hands-on contract role supporting full vehicle development from concept through to production launch.

You will take ownership of Body in White (BIW) commodities including core body, upper body, underbody and closures (hood, tailgate). The role covers design and release, supplier milestone management and delivery against cost, weight and quality targets.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead BIW design and development from concept to SOP
• Create and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings and BOM using CATIA V5/V6 / 3DX
• Apply GD&T, tolerance stack-up and sheet metal design principles
• Manage supplier delivery to programme milestones
• Support DFMEA, DFM/DFA and engineering documentation
• Ensure compliance with OEM processes and vehicle programme gateways

Required Experience:

• Strong automotive BIW / Body Structures experience
• Hands-on CATIA V5 or V6 capability
• Experience with GD&T, DFMEA, BOM management
• Knowledge of tooling, jigs, fixtures and manufacturing feasibility
• Experience working in OEM or Tier 1 automotive environments
• Exposure to NPD and vehicle launch programmes

Desirable: 3DX platform, VAVE, Six Sigma, 8D problem solving.

This role is ideal for a senior BIW engineer who can independently manage delivery while working closely with manufacturing, suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams.
