Machine Shop Manager
Location: Corby
Salary: £40,000 per annum (DOE)
Hours: Days based role, Friday early finish
Benefits: 25 days holiday + bank holidays, profit sharing bonus
The Role
As Machine Shop Manager, you will oversee the daily operations of our machine shop, ensuring production targets are met safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. You will manage a skilled team of four machine setters and operators, maintaining strong leadership while driving workflow optimisation, resource management, and output.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and manage machine shop production schedules to meet customer deadlines.
- Lead, motivate, and supervise a team of 6 machine setters and operators, including performance management and development.
- Manage maintenance schedules for all machinery to minimise downtime and improve efficiency.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of new staff members.
- Oversee stock levels and order consumables required for the machine shop.
- Monitor performance, output, and quality, implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure health & safety standards and company policies are followed at all times.
- Work closely with senior management to align production with company goals.
About You
We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented individual with strong leadership skills and hands-on experience in machine shop operations. You’ll be able to balance people management with production efficiency, driving both team performance and process improvements.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Previous experience in a machine shop leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of production scheduling and resource management.
- Experience managing machine maintenance and consumable stock.
- Excellent communication and team management skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
Desirable:
- Background in machining or related manufacturing.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement techniques.
