Marine Operations Manager
(Location: Remote)
The role: OPA are looking to appoint a new Marine Operations Manager, to be remote based, preferably within reasonable commuting distance of one of our OFDs (Oil Fuel Depot) at Garelochhead, Helensburgh, Argyll & Bute), Thanckes, Torpoint, Cornwall, or Gosport, Hampshire.
We are looking for an experienced senior manager, who is able to demonstrate strong leadership, who can positively engage all our stakeholders and motivate staff, with a strong focus on positive improvement of culture.
This pivotal role will have full responsibility for the safe and effective Marine Operations of the OPA Facilities and remote Operational Staff; meeting all the necessary HSE/SEPA/EA requirements, in particular safe marine operations, and compliance of the PMSC (Port Marine Safety Code) and COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards), to meet customer service levels and to achieve set financial goals.
The Marine Operations Manager is responsible to the Duty Holder for ensuring compliance with the relevant parts of the PMSC. To ensure they are effective, the Marine Operations Manager must:
Travel to our UK sites will be a regular feature of this role, with some overnight stays. Therefore, a full (preferably clean) driving licence is essential for the successful candidate. There will also be occasional overseas travel when required.

The candidate: Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Senior Operations Manager or equivalent, providing effective guidance and leadership within the Major High Hazard Industry sector, ensuring efficiency and compliance with organisational and regulatory requirements, and company procedures. With an additional five years’ experience, working in a Maritime environment with the relevant professional qualification i.e. Diploma for Harbour Masters.
Required Knowledge / Skills:
* Excellent knowledge Maritime Marine regulations including the following of IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, and other international and local maritime laws.
* Knowledge of ship handling, navigation systems, and operational procedures.
* Experience with cargo handling, berthing, and coordination with port authorities.
* Excellent leadership, management, and communication skills.
* Working knowledge of COMAH and its application.
* Able to maintain the appropriate level of controls within a MAH environment.
* Good financial understanding and Competent with all Microsoft Office applications.
