Job Specification:

MEICA Project Engineer – Water Industry (Construction, Installation & Refurbishment).

Reporting To

Project Manager

Location

Based at our Ilkeston office, with site visits across the UK as required.

Purpose of the Role

To support the successful delivery of mechanical and electrical projects within the water and wastewater industry. The Project Engineer will provide technical expertise, manage engineering documentation, coordinate design and installation activities, and liaise with clients, suppliers, and site teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and to specification.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the planning, design, and execution of water industry projects.

Provide engineering support across construction, new installations, and refurbishment works.

Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and client standards.

Ensure compliance with WIMES (Water Industry Mechanical and Electrical Specifications), BS 7671, and client requirements.

Coordinate with site supervisors and installation teams to ensure quality and safety standards are maintained.

Prepare and maintain project documentation, including RAMS, technical submittals, and progress reports.

Undertake site visits for inspections, surveys, and technical support.

Liaise with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to resolve technical queries.

Support commissioning and handover processes, ensuring all documentation and testing is completed.

Promote a strong culture of health, safety, and environmental compliance.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent industry experience).

Proven experience as an Engineer in the water industry, utilities, or similar heavy engineering environment.

Strong technical knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical systems, including pumps, pipework, MCCs, and instrumentation.

Understanding of WIMES specifications and water industry client standards.

Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and project documentation systems.

Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

Experience in both mechanical and electrical disciplines (M&E background).

EUSR Water Hygiene and confined space training.

Knowledge of project planning software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).

Familiarity with CDM Regulations and construction management.

Experience supporting commissioning and testing activities.

Working Requirements

Office-based with flexibility for site travel.

Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Willingness to attend occasional overnight stays when required.
