
Payments Assistant
Location: County Hall, West Bridgford – Nottingham (NG2)
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Pay Rate: £13.26 per hour
Contract: Temporary (minimum 6 months) – may be extended or made permanent based on business need

Purpose of the Role
The Payments Assistant provides essential financial and administrative support within the team, ensuring that all payments are processed accurately and efficiently. The role requires a high level of attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple systems and tasks simultaneously.
Working Arrangements
Training Period: The successful candidate will be based at County Hall, West Bridgford (Nottingham) for the first 3–6 months while training.
Hybrid Working: Once fully trained and competent, hybrid working will be introduced. The postholder will be required to attend the office once or twice per week, or as required by the business.
Hours:
During training: Start between 8:30–9:00 a.m.
Once fully trained: Start between 8:00–9:00 a.m., finish between 4:00–5:00 p.m.
On-site parking is available, and there is a bus stop directly outside the building.
Key Responsibilities
Process and verify payments accurately and in accordance with financial procedures.
Reconcile payment information and resolve any discrepancies promptly.
Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with financial controls and audit requirements.
Use multiple internal systems and Microsoft Office applications daily to process and track payments.
Respond to payment-related queries from internal departments and external stakeholders in a professional and timely manner.
Support the wider team with administrative and financial tasks as required.
Contribute to maintaining a smooth and efficient payment service within the team.
Essential Skills and Experience
Strong numeracy and accuracy skills with attention to detail.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan and prioritise workloads effectively.
Confident IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
Ability to learn and work across multiple digital systems.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills – able to work effectively as part of a small, supportive team.
Reliable, proactive, and adaptable approach to work.
Desirable Skills
Previous experience in finance, payments, or administrative support roles.
Knowledge of financial systems and procedures.
