Payroll Officer
Location: Melton Mowbray (on-site)
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Salary: Up to £32,000 per year (DOE)
Sector: Reputable retail business
The brief:
Keep payroll accurate, compliant, and on time for a busy retail operation. If you’re detail-driven, love clean reconciliations, and can calmly hit cut-offs in a high-volume setting, you’ll fit right in.
What you’ll do
- Run end-to-end UK payroll across weekly and monthly cycles (hourly and salaried staff).
- Process starters/leavers, P45/P60, contractual changes, overtime, shift premiums, and allowances.
- Calculate and process statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP, ShPP) and holiday pay for variable/irregular hours.
- Manage time & attendance imports, chase/mend variances, and lock down approvals to deadlines.
- Complete RTI submissions to HMRC; maintain PAYE/NIC, student loans, and attachment of earnings.
- Handle pension auto-enrolment (assessments, opt-ins/outs, contributions) and liaise with providers.
- Own payroll controls: reconciliations, payroll journals, and month-end packs for Finance.
- Resolve employee and manager queries with clear, helpful communication.
- Maintain GDPR-compliant records and support year-end (P60, P11D data gathering).
- Spot process gaps and drive small, sensible improvements.
What you’ll bring
- Solid, recent UK payroll experience.
- Working knowledge of a mainstream payroll system (e.g., Sage, IRIS, SD Worx, ADP, iTrent) and confident Excel skills (lookups, pivots) is desirable.
- Up-to-date grasp of payroll legislation, RTI, pensions auto-enrolment, and holiday pay rules for irregular hours.
- Accuracy, discretion, and a can-do attitude under tight deadlines.
What’s on offer
- Salary up to £32,000 DOE.
- A stable role with a reputable retail brand and supportive team.
- Pension and standard retail benefits (full details at interview).
- Career growth as the function and business continue to scale.
