Project Engineer - Major Infrastructure

The Opportunity

I am working with a Tier 1 contractor to recruit a Project Engineer to join a large, multi‑year environmental infrastructure upgrade designed to enhance regional water quality and long‑term ecological resilience. Working closely with the Project Manager, you will play a key role in the day‑to‑day engineering coordination of a major linear infrastructure scheme spanning more than 20km.This role is ideal for an engineer with strong site experience who is ready to take responsibility for technical oversight, contractor support and ensuring the smooth delivery of construction activities across multiple locations.

Role Overview

As Project Engineer, you will support the Project Manager in all aspects of planning, engineering coordination and site‑based delivery. You will act as a technical liaison between designers, contractors, landowners and environmental bodies, ensuring works are delivered safely, compliantly and in line with programme expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide daily engineering support across multiple sites along a linear pipeline route.
• Assist in planning, scheduling and monitoring construction activities.
• Review technical drawings, method statements and specifications to ensure compliance.
• Conduct site inspections, quality checks and progress reporting.
• Support risk assessments, CDM compliance, permits and safety planning.
• Coordinate technical queries between design teams, contractors and the Project Manager.
• Support stakeholder engagement, including landowners and operational partners.
• Assist with identifying issues, proposing engineering solutions and implementing corrective actions.

Requirements

• Experience as a Project Engineer, Site Engineer or similar within civil engineering, utilities, water or infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing and on‑site engineering practices.
• Working knowledge of CDM Regulations and engineering‑led H&S compliance.
• Experience reading technical drawings, carrying out inspections and preparing engineering reports.
• Ability to support juggling multiple work fronts across dispersed sites.

Qualifications & Training

• Degree/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or related discipline.
  • CSCS (Engineering / Professionally Qualified Card)
  • EUSR / SHEA Water

Ideal Candidate Profile

You will be a proactive and organised engineer with strong technical capability, excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with contractors, consultants and stakeholders. You'll be comfortable working across multiple sites, managing competing priorities and supporting the Project Manager to keep the programme on track.
