Job Title Project Manager (MEICA)

Department / Location:  East Ilkeston Office - with travel to various sites and client offices

Job Purpose: To manage and deliver mechanical and electrical projects within the water and wastewater industry, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The Project Manager will be responsible for project planning, resource management, cost control, and client liaison, while maintaining compliance with WIMES specifications, client requirements, and statutory regulations.

Job Responsibilities

· Lead and manage the delivery of water industry projects, from contract award through to

completion and handover.

· Develop and manage project programmes, budgets, and resource plans.

· Ensure compliance with WIMES standards, BS 7671, and client specifications.

· Oversee site activities, coordinating with supervisors, engineers, and subcontractors.

· Prepare, review, and manage project documentation, including RAMS, progress reports, and

quality assurance records.

· Undertake regular site visits to monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure safety and quality

standards are met.

· Act as the main point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong working

relationships.

· Manage procurement of materials, plant, and subcontract services.

· Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation, promoting a strong safety

culture.

· Monitor project risks and implement mitigation strategies.

· Support testing, commissioning, and project handover processes.

No role profile can cover every issue which may arise within the post at various times. The post holder is

expected to carry out other duties from time to time, which are broadly consistent with those described.

Person Attributes

Knowledge and Skills required

An M&E Project Manager in the water industry requires a strong blend of mechanical and electrical engineering

knowledge, project management expertise, and commercial acumen, including strong knowledge of NEC

contracting, to successfully deliver complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects safely, on time, and

within budget.

Technical and Industry Knowledge

· Sound knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems used in water and wastewater treatment, including

pumps, motors, valves, pipework, MCCs, VSDs, instrumentation, control systems, and SCADA.

· Understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes and operational requirements.

· Knowledge of construction, commissioning, and handover processes for operational water assets.

· Familiarity with asset management principles, whole-of-life costing, and maintainability considerations.

Project Management and NEC Contracting Skills

· Strong capability in project planning, scheduling, cost control, risk management, and programme

management.

· Strong working knowledge of NEC forms of contract, including early warnings, compensation events,

programme management, change control, and collaborative working principles.

· Ability to administer NEC contracts effectively, manage variations, assess compensation events, and

ensure compliance with contractual timescales.

· Experience managing procurement strategies and supply chains within NEC contractual frameworks.

Regulatory, Safety, and Quality Knowledge

· Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements specific to the water industry, including

construction safety and operational interfaces.

· Understanding of relevant industry standards, codes of practice, and regulatory approvals.

· Experience with quality assurance systems, testing, commissioning, and compliance documentation.

Stakeholder and Communication Skills

· Strong communication and negotiation skills to coordinate with operations, engineering, regulators, and

contractors.

· Ability to manage interfaces between construction activities and live water and wastewater operations.

· Skills in facilitating design reviews, risk reduction workshops, and NEC early warning meetings.

Leadership and Personal Attributes

· Ability to lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams while promoting a collaborative and safety-focused

culture.

· Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in complex project environments.

· Commitment to continuous improvement, value engineering, and best practice project delivery.

Experience required

5 Years + in the water industry

Essential Qualifications

· Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).

· Significant experience in project management within the water industry, utilities, or heavy engineering

sector.

· Proven track record of delivering construction, installation, and refurbishment projects successfully.

· Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including pumps, MCCs, pipework, and

instrumentation.

· Familiarity with WIMES specifications and water industry client standards. · Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. · Strong financial management, commercial awareness, and contract management experience. · Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

Desirable Qualifications

· Professional Project Management qualification (e.g., APM, PRINCE2, or equivalent).

· SMSTS or equivalent site safety management training.

· EUSR Water Hygiene card and confined space training.

· Experience with project planning software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
