Quantity Surveyor - Civils / Piling

Job Description:

Role Overview: 

We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team of this dynamic piling and ground civil engineering specialist. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will play a key role in cost management, contractual administration, and commercial control across a diverse portfolio of piling and civil engineering projects nationwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare cost estimates and detailed bills of quantities for piling and foundation scope packages.

• Analyse tender documentation, drawings and specifications to produce accurate commercial submissions.

• Assist with the preparation and submission of competitive tenders and proposals in line with company strategy.

• Monitor contract costs, valuations, variations, valuations and progress payment applications.

• Collaborate with project teams to ensure cost control, forecasting and risk management throughout the project lifecycle.

• Administer commercial aspects of contracts, including CDM, NEC, JCT or bespoke agreements as applicable.

• Review subcontractor and supplier quotations, manage procurement and support negotiations where required.

• Produce regular commercial reports, cash flow forecasts and cost plans for senior stakeholders.

• Support senior commercial colleagues with contract close-out, claims preparation and settlement.

Candidate Profile

Essential:

• Experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in construction, civil engineering or groundworks (piling exposure preferred).

• Working knowledge of cost planning, measurement, procurement and contract law/administration.

• Proficient in commercial reporting, valuations, risk management and financial control.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships.

• Strong attention to detail with commercial and analytical acumen.

Desirable:

• Experience working with NEC or JCT contracts.

• Ability to interpret technical/geotechnical drawings and understand specialist piling workstreams.

• Competent in cost estimating software and Microsoft Office suite.

Location

Work from home with an expectation to visit the office 2 times a week, occasional national travel for site visits where needed.
