Job Description:
Raw Materials QA
The Raw Materials QA will be responsible for ensuring that all food and packaging materials delivered to site meet the specifications required and approved by both the site and its customers. This includes performing product checks and upholding high standards at intake and across all storage areas.
Raw Materials QA Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor all materials delivered to site and release them for use based on relevant food safety and quality criteria.
- Collaborate with production teams to ensure documentation is accurate and full traceability is maintained.
- Act as the Quality Champion for the product – ensuring compliance with specifications, quality expectations, and aesthetic standards.
- Conduct all agreed intake checks for ingredients, including pH, temperature, sensory evaluation, salinity, density, viscosity, etc.
- Review all Certificates of Analysis (COA) and Certificates of Conformity (COC) for each delivery.
- Oversee raw material management, including the maintenance of microbiological and nutritional testing schedules.
- Raise and complete non-conformance reports, and communicate issues to suppliers and transport providers.
- Support the Raw Materials Specialist with supplier risk assessments and reviews, and maintain the approved supplier and raw material database.
- Assist in the development of procedures, forms, and product quality standards.
- Coordinate technical tasks related to raw materials to ensure the site remains audit-ready at all times.
Raw Materials QA Skills and Experience:
- Internal auditing experience.
- Understanding and application of current food legislation, BRCGS standards, and customer codes of practice.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to coach colleagues on procedures and address non-conformance.
- Task-focused with strong follow-through.
Raw Materials QA Knowledge / Qualifications:
- Level 3 Food Safety and Level 3 HACCP.
- Understanding of labelling and packaging legislation.
- Basic knowledge of environmental and product microbiology.
- Familiarity with RASSF and Horizon Scanning processes.
- Understanding of PAS 96, Food Defence, and bioterrorism risk.
- Knowledge of Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs
