Reliability Engineer – Rail / Rolling Stock Location: Derby (office-based with ad-hoc travel)
Salary: £45,000 – £60,000 + benefits (dependent on experience)
Employment Type: Permanent, full-time
Hours: 37 per week
TXM Recruit are working in partnership with a
market-leading rail engineering business to recruit a
Reliability Engineer to join their established technical team in Derby.
This is a key hire, and an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to step into a high-impact role with one of the UK’s most respected rail technology companies.
The Opportunity: As a Reliability Engineer, you’ll take ownership of
fleet reliability growth,
technical investigations, and
data-driven improvement programmes across a range of
modern and legacy rolling stock.
You’ll act as the bridge between engineering, operations, and the customer, using analytical insight and technical expertise to ensure high fleet availability, reduce failure rates, and enhance system performance.
Your work will directly influence reliability strategy, performance metrics, and technical improvement initiatives across the business.
Key Responsibilities: - Develop and implement fleet and system reliability growth plans.
- Analyse complex data sets to identify trends, failure patterns, and improvement opportunities.
- Drive FRACAS / WIM processes and ensure effective root cause analysis.
- Produce and present detailed reliability reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support product improvement and through-life care models to enhance fleet performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and customer representatives.
- Contribute to technical documentation, fault-finding guides, and continuous improvement processes.
Requirements: We’re looking for a proactive, analytical engineer with a strong background in
rolling stock and a passion for
technical problem solving.
Essential:- Degree (or HNC/HND) in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering.
- Proven experience in fleet reliability, performance, or technical engineering within the rail industry.
- Strong understanding of train systems, fault-finding, FRACAS, FTA, and reliability growth models.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites (occasional overnight stays).
Desirable:- Electrically biased engineer with experience resolving complex wiring and diagnostic issues.
- Knowledge of ISO/Quality systems and safety/reliability compliance requirements.
- PRINCE2 or APM qualification (or equivalent project management experience).
