SEMH Support Teaching Assistant - Mental Health Experience

Contract: Full-time / Part-time (term-time only options available)

We are looking to appoint a committed and empathetic SEMH Support Teaching Assistant to join our specialist school in the Corby area. This role is well suited to individuals with a background or strong interest in mental health who are motivated to support children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.

You will play a key role in supporting pupils to manage their emotions, behaviour, and engagement with learning, working as part of a multidisciplinary team in a nurturing and structured environment.

• Deliver targeted 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs

• Support pupils with emotional regulation, wellbeing, and behaviour throughout the school day

• Use trauma-informed and restorative approaches to promote positive outcomes

• Help pupils access learning through adapted activities and encouragement

• Develop positive, consistent relationships with pupils

• Work closely with teaching staff, SEN professionals, and pastoral teams

• Support pupils' social skills and resilience in and out of the classroom

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• Experience supporting children or young people with mental health or SEMH needs

• Background in areas such as mental health, youth work, psychology, counselling, or care

• A calm, reflective, and patient manner

• Confidence in managing challenging situations in a professional and supportive way

• Strong communication skills and a team-focused approach

• A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable learners

• Previous experience in a SEMH school, SEN setting, PRU, or alternative provision

• Behaviour support training (e.g. Team Teach or equivalent)

• Mental Health First Aid certification

• Relevant qualifications such as Teaching Assistant Level 2/3 or Health & Social Care
