Senior Development Officer

About the Role:
One of my local government clients is seeking an experienced Senior Development Officer (Planning) to support its Growth & Regeneration directorate. This key role involves working across Planning Policy, Development Management, and Enforcement to deliver high-quality planning services.

You’ll lead and support a range of projects, from managing complex planning applications and enforcement cases to developing policy documents and supporting the Local Plan process.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage projects within Planning Policy and Development Management

• Prepare reports, appeal statements, and present at Planning Committees

• Undertake site inspections and investigations into breaches of planning control

• Support policy development and consultation exercises

• Provide expert planning advice to colleagues, applicants, and the public

• Represent the Council at hearings and inquiries

About You:

• Degree in Town/Urban Planning or a related discipline

• Eligible for or a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI)

• Strong understanding of UK planning legislation and policy frameworks

• Proven experience handling a range of planning applications or policy projects

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills

• Ability to travel independently across the local area
