Senior Operations Technician
Location: Nottingham, Nottinghamshire
Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 + Benefits

About the Role
We are recruiting for a Senior Operations Technician to join a Power Generation Facility.
This is a senior hands-on role responsible for supporting the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the plant, ensuring high levels of availability, performance, and environmental compliance.
You will play a key role in plant operations, fault finding and mentoring junior team members within a 24/7 process environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the safe and efficient operation of the Power Generation Facility.
- Operate and monitor plant systems using DCS/SCADA
- Ensure compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) standards and Environmental Permit
- Respond to plant faults, alarms, and carry out first-line fault diagnosis
- Assist with start-up, shutdown, and emergency operations
- Monitor and adjust plant performance to optimise efficiency and output
- Apply and support Safe Systems of Work (permits, RAMS, risk assessments)
- Assist with plant isolation for maintenance activities
- Contribute to incident reporting, investigations, and root cause analysis
- Participate in daily planning and coordination of operations and maintenance
- Provide guidance and support to junior operators/technicians
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and operational discipline
- Contribute to continuous improvement and plant optimisation initiatives
Skills & Experience
- Recognised engineering qualification or apprenticeship
- Experience in an EfW, Biomass, Power Generation, or heavy process environment
- Working knowledge of DCS / SCADA systems
- Understanding of boilers, steam systems, and combustion processes
- Knowledge of Safe Systems of Work / permit systems
- Basic understanding of electrical systems (LV/HV) (advantageous)
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Good IT skills (Word, Excel) for reporting
- Ability to work effectively within a shift team
