Job Description:
Location & contract basis: This is a full time, permanent salaried role based from Derby. We are not considering freelance/contractors for this role.
Role Purpose:
You will be leading the commercial team in delivering and managing varied commercial duties for our Rolls Royce project at Deby, as well as being responsible for procuring and managing our supply chain. You will actively seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality for our client.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial Management Oversee all commercial aspects of construction projects including contract administration, cost management, and financial reporting. Develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections. Lead commercial negotiations with contractors, suppliers, and consultants. Manage change control processes and variations to ensure optimal commercial outcomes.
- Contract Administration Administer the Client NEC Option C contract, and Subcontracts issued to supply-chain. Review contract terms, conditions, and amendments and engage with the business to gain approval. Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and manage dispute resolution processes. Coordinate with Senior Leadership Team on contractual matters.
- Risk and Cost Control Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle. Implement robust cost control systems and monitor expenditure against approved budgets. Conduct regular cost-benefit analyses and provide recommendations for cost optimisation.
- Stakeholder Management Build and maintain relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders. Lead commercial discussions in project meetings and present commercial reports to senior management and client boards. Coordinate with quantity surveyors, project managers, and construction teams to align commercial objectives.
- Team Leadership Lead and mentor on commercial issues on the project. Provide guidance on commercial issues and ensure professional development of team members. Foster collaborative working relationships across project teams.
- Financial Reporting and Analysis Prepare comprehensive commercial reports including monthly cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and final accounts. Analyse project performance against commercial targets and identify areas for improvement.
- Pre-construction Provide input to potential tenders on the project and assist in the Go/No-go process.
- Pre-construction Lead on pre-construction activities on the project and work with the Project Managers to deliver quality reports for approval of the Senior Leadership Team
Preferred competences
- Strong commercial acumen
- Be able to review weekly, monthly, programmes of works
- Have an understanding of delay and disruption programmes
- Use the company’s Evolution MX System (Finance)
- Prepares, submits and negotiates claims when required. Including monthly valuations and final accounts
- Collation of Cost and Value Information for monthly reviews
- Experienced in NEC3 - Issue and management of Early Warning Notices / EWN Register, Risk Register, Compensation Events and alike
- Monitors subcontract activities, measure and respond appropriately with applicable notices
- Preparation of Cost reconciliation statements
- Help identify savings and value engineering
- Collect information required to specify procurement requirements
- Record and document information including registration of interest
- Undertakes customer and stakeholder management for their area of responsibility
- Vetting of contractual terms and conditions in accordance with Integral house rules
- Cash management: Commercial processes involved with debt recovery, retentions and cash flow
- Measurement of works and agreements with subcontractors, including placement of sub-contract orders (T&C’s), valuing applications, measurement of variations and final account agreement
- BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying / Construction Management
- Membership of professional organisation such as RICS / CIOB
- Proven and demonstrable experience in the role of a Senior Quantity Surveyor within the building/construction/building service industries (essential).
