Location: Loughborough
Business Unit: Civil Engineering / Infrastructure
Reports To: SHEQ Manager
About the Role We’re looking for an ambitious and proactive
Junior Health & Safety Advisor / SHEQ Advisor to join our civil engineering delivery team.
You’ll be part of a safety-driven culture that keeps people, processes, and the environment protected — all while learning the ropes of how a major civils project operates in a high-spec industrial setting.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their H&S career who’s eager to grow, take ownership, and get hands-on experience in a complex, regulated environment where precision and compliance are everything.
Key Responsibilities- Support the project SHEQ team in delivering site-wide safety, health, environmental and quality standards.
- Assist in toolbox talks, site inductions, and safety briefings to maintain strong workforce engagement.
- Carry out routine site inspections and audits, helping to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Support incident and near-miss investigations, ensuring accurate reporting and learning capture.
- Monitor and help enforce compliance with CDM Regulations, company policies, and client-specific safety requirements.
- Keep the SHEQ documentation and reporting systems up to date — accuracy is everything when pharma auditors are about.
- Support the roll-out of environmental management initiatives, including waste, energy, and sustainability targets.
- Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and the client team to ensure method statements, risk assessments, and permits are properly reviewed and followed.
Skills & Experience- Minimum NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent; working towards NVQ Level 3/4 in Occupational H&S or Tech IOSH preferred.
- Ideally 1–2 years’ experience in construction, civil engineering, or industrial environments.
- Working knowledge of CDM 2015, ISO 45001, and environmental management systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills — you’ll be talking to everyone from groundworkers to project managers.
- Confident using digital reporting tools (e.g. FieldView, iAuditor, or similar).
- A proactive attitude — someone who doesn’t just spot issues, but helps solve them.
What’s on Offer- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Mentorship from senior SHEQ professionals with deep industry experience.
- Exposure to a highly regulated, safety-critical environment (a great CV booster).
- Genuine career development opportunities — our best junior advisors grow into project leads.
Ideal Candidate Snapshot You’re observant, conscientious, and calm under pressure. You like solving real-world problems and care about keeping people safe. You can read a risk assessment without glazing over, and you’re not afraid to get your boots muddy in the name of compliance.
