Social Worker – Learning Disabilities & Autism Team

Leicestershire County Council is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our dedicated Learning Disabilities and Autism Team. We champion a person-centred, strengths-based approach to social care, focusing on enabling citizens to live independent and fulfilling lives within their communities.

Key Responsibilities

As a Social Worker in our team, you will ensure high-quality, outcome-based responses to all eligible citizens, with duties including:

• Assessment and Planning: Providing appropriate responses or referrals within required timescales, adhering to organisational, policy, and legislative requirements, including the Care Act 2014 and eligibility guidelines. This includes working effectively within the reimbursement legislation.
• Crisis Intervention: Providing prompt support to meet immediate risks and needs in crisis situations, applying your professional judgement to manage complex and urgent scenarios.
• Multi-Agency Partnership: Providing targeted, appropriate support to citizens' self-assessments of their needs, working in partnership with colleagues in Health (including Continuing Health Care), and other partner agencies to contribute to multi-disciplinary assessments as required.
• Complex Case Management: Acting as a Care Co-ordinator for citizens with complex needs, supporting high-risk, complex assessments where there are specific concerns requiring a high level of specialist qualification (e.g., Best Interest Assessor) and knowledge, and/or where there are difficult life circumstances or serious trauma.
• Safeguarding and Advocacy: Upholding the principles of the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and being proficient in carrying out Best Interests Assessments. You will be a key advocate for human rights, self-determination, and safeguarding vulnerable adults.
• Transitions: Supporting young people with disabilities and/or autism in their transition to adulthood from children's services, ensuring a seamless and person-centred preparation for their adult lives.

What We Are Looking For:

• A recognised professional qualification in Social Work and current registration with Social Work England.
• Demonstrable experience in Adult Social Care, preferably within a Learning Disabilities and/or Autism setting.
• Excellent working knowledge of relevant UK legislation, including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Children and Families Act 2014 (in relation to transitions).
• A commitment to working in a reflective, anti-oppressive, and rights-based manner.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and high-quality report-writing skills.
