Sustainability & Chemical Compliance Officer

This role offers the chance to combine regulatory expertise with a commitment to responsible chemical management, supporting both compliance and innovation in a busy industrial environment. You’ll work closely with the Technical & Regulatory Affairs team to ensure products meet legal, environmental, and customer requirements while driving forward the company’s sustainability roadmap.
Role Overview
As a Sustainability & Chemical Compliance Officer, you’ll be responsible for identifying, interpreting, and applying relevant chemical regulations and sustainability standards. You’ll create and maintain accurate technical documentation, review materials for compliance, and guide colleagues on best practices. You’ll also play a key role in embedding sustainability across the business and supporting external audits, reporting, and certification activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, collate, and monitor compliance requirements in line with chemical regulations and sustainability standards.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS), specifications, and product information.
- Review and approve material data from suppliers, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and company standards.
- Ensure packaging and labelling meet applicable directives and standards.
- Investigate and address non-compliance, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Provide training and guidance on chemical compliance and sustainability to internal teams.
- Keep the business updated on changes in legislation and emerging sustainability trends.
- Develop and manage the company’s sustainability roadmap, integrating goals into business processes.
- Carry out internal ISO audits and support external audits (BSI, customer, and regulatory).
- Gather and collate data for external reporting, such as Valpak, Ecovadis, and Responsible Care submissions.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Degree in a science-based or related subject.
- Experience creating and updating technical documents (e.g., SDS), ideally in a specialty chemical or solvents business.
- Awareness of chemical legislation and sustainability practices.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Desirable:
- Experience in QC or analytical data handling.
- Experience in external reporting for sustainability and compliance.
Location & Benefits

- Salary: £30k - £35k
- Hours: 10:00 - 18:00 Monday to Friday
