The Opportunity
Mploy Group are partnering with a well-established engineering-led organisation delivering major industrial and manufacturing infrastructure upgrades to the client base across the UK.
We are looking for a Utilities Project Engineer / Project Manager to take ownership of critical site infrastructure systems, playing a key role across both the design and construction phases of complex projects.
This is a highly visible role, sitting at the centre of delivery β bridging the gap between design consultants, contractors, and on-site teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.
The Role
You will be responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of utilities and mechanical systems, ensuring they are correctly designed, coordinated, and installed.
Key Responsibilities
π§ Design Phase
- Provide design criteria and technical input to external design contractors, ensuring full understanding of existing site operations and future requirements
- Review and sign off design documentation, including:
- Schematics and layout drawings
- Technical data sheets
- Equipment lists
- Construction schedules
- Participate in weekly design and clash management meetings
- Ensure designs are practical, compliant, and aligned with operational needs
ποΈ Construction Phase
- Attend and contribute to daily site meetings
- Oversee construction activities to ensure compliance with design and quality standards
- Support and manage scope changes and technical queries
- Create and manage snagging lists through to resolution
- Review and sign off as-built documentation
Technical Scope
You will have responsibility across a range of critical utilities systems, including:
- Steam boiler systems and distribution
- Compressed air systems and pipework
- Water treatment (RO systems, softeners, distribution)
- Natural gas systems
- Large air handling units (AHU) and ducting
- Air conditioning and HVAC systems
- Refrigeration systems (chillers, evaporators) and heat pumps
- Vacuum systems
What Weβre Looking For
- Proven experience in a Project Engineer or Project Manager role within industrial, manufacturing, or building services environments
- Strong mechanical engineering background
- Experience working with utilities infrastructure systems (steam, HVAC, water, gas, etc.)
- Ability to confidently review and approve technical designs
- Experience working across both design and on-site construction phases
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple contractors
- Hands-on, delivery-focused mindset
