Quantity Surveyor / Estimator
Leicester Based Office with Nationwide Site Travel
£55,000 - £60,000 + Company Car / Car Allowance

An established and growing specialist contractor within the construction sector is seeking an experienced Surveyor / Estimator to join their team. This is a hybrid commercial role combining both estimating and quantity surveying responsibilities, offering excellent long-term career prospects within a supportive and professional environment.

The Role
This position offers a dynamic split between pre-contract estimating and post-contract commercial management. Depending on workload, you will take the lead in either function, playing a key role in both securing and delivering projects.
Projects are primarily within passive fire protection, including fire-stopping, cavity barriers, and specialist coatings, across sites nationwide (predominantly Midlands-based).

Key Responsibilities
Estimating Duties:

• Manage tender enquiries from initial review through to submission
• Analyse drawings, specifications, and tender documents
• Carry out site visits where required
• Prepare detailed cost estimates including labour, materials, and plant
• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing
• Produce detailed bills of quantities and tender submissions
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations and fire safety standards
• Support value engineering initiatives
• Attend pre-start and handover meetings upon project award

Surveying Duties:

• Manage projects from award through to final account (“cradle to graveâ€)
• Review contracts and terms to ensure commercial compliance
• Monitor budgets, costs, and project cashflow
• Manage variations, compensation events, and change control
• Submit monthly applications for payment and track outstanding monies
• Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders
• Conduct regular site visits and support project delivery teams
• Lead final account negotiations and close-out

About You
Experience within construction (passive fire protection advantageous but not essential)
Strong commercial awareness and contractual knowledge (JCT/NEC)
Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Highly organised with strong attention to detail
Full UK driving licence
