Job Description:

Functional Skills Tutor

Location: Leicester
Pay: £20–£30 per hour
Hours: 15 hours per week
Contract: Long-term

TeacherActive is working with a pupil in Leicester who requires an experienced and resilient Home Tutor to provide personalised education in a home-based or alternative setting.

The pupil has social, emotional and mental health needs and may display challenging behaviour. The successful Home Tutor will need to build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil while delivering engaging Functional Skills Maths and English sessions.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a patient and adaptable tutor who is passionate about supporting young people who may have experienced barriers to education.

The successful Home Tutor will be responsible for:

• Delivering 15 hours of personalised tuition each week
• Planning and teaching Functional Skills Maths and English
• Adapting lessons to meet the pupil’s individual learning needs
• Supporting the pupil’s emotional regulation and engagement
• Using effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
• Creating a calm, consistent and structured learning environment
• Monitoring progress and completing relevant reports
• Working closely with parents, carers and other professionals

The successful Home Tutor will have:

• Previous teaching or tutoring experience
• Proven experience teaching Functional Skills Maths and English
• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs
• Confidence managing challenging behaviour
• Strong de-escalation and relationship-building skills
• A calm, patient and resilient approach
• Team Teach training is beneficial but not essential
• An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
