Ashby-de-la-Zouch is a market town of about 13,000 on the A511, near the Leicestershire / Derbyshire border. It's a small town with two outsized local employers — McVitie's (United Biscuits) and Pera Innovation Park — and beyond those, the usual mix of retail, care and small-business work in the high street and on the Ashby industrial estate.

McVitie's Ashby bakery on Wellington Parkway, off the A511, has been operating for decades and is the main employer in town across production, engineering and supply chain. Pera Innovation Park (out at Melton Road — same Pera as in Melton Mowbray, which causes constant confusion between the two locations) hosts R&D facilities and consultancy firms.
