The Automotive Test Engineer role

We are looking for an Automotive Test Engineer to join a small team supporting vehicle testing and type approval programmes at an established automotive R&D facility in the Hinckley / Nuneaton area.

Working alongside experienced Senior Engineers and Technicians, you will support the planning and delivery of a range of automotive homologation and vehicle testing programmes. This is a varied role combining engineering analysis, test preparation, data quality and reporting with practical, hands-on activities within the R&D workshop.

The role will suit an engineer who enjoys being close to the vehicle and the physical testing process, rather than someone looking purely for a desk-based engineering position.

Key Responsibilities – Automotive Test Engineer

As an Automotive Test Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting Senior Engineers with the planning and delivery of automotive homologation and type approval testing.
• Preparing and reviewing test requirements and test procedures.
• Supporting the preparation of vehicles and test equipment prior to testing.
• Performing test data quality checks and identifying potential issues with test results.
• Analysing and reviewing test data to ensure it meets the required standards and specifications.
• Producing accurate engineering test reports and technical documentation.
• Supporting vehicle and component testing within an R&D test facility.
• Carrying out practical engineering and workshop activities where required.
• Working closely with Test Engineers, Senior Engineers and Technicians to ensure testing programmes are completed safely, accurately and on schedule.
• Maintaining high standards of health, safety and workshop compliance.

About You

This role would suit an Automotive Engineer, Mechanical Engineer or Test Engineer who is looking to develop their experience within automotive R&D, vehicle testing and homologation.

You are likely to have:

• A degree or equivalent qualification in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Motorsport Engineering or a similar engineering discipline.
• Previous experience within an automotive test engineering, vehicle development, validation or R&D engineering environment.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to produce clear and accurate technical reports.
• A practical, hands-on approach to engineering.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a small engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Automotive or Mechanical Engineer to gain further experience within a global automotive OEM and established R&D/testing environment.

You will be exposed to vehicle testing, homologation, type approval, test data analysis and technical reporting, while also gaining valuable hands-on experience within an automotive workshop and test facility. The role offers a combination of technical engineering work and practical vehicle testing, making it particularly well suited to an engineer who enjoys seeing projects progress from test preparation through to testing, data analysis and final reporting.
