Braintree / Bishops Stortford
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm

Job Purpose
Our client, a leading provider of integrated facilities management and infrastructure solutions, is hiring for a Building Fabric Engineer to join its Mobile Response Team, supporting a portfolio of retail sites across the East region.

We're seeking a skilled and customer-focused Building Fabric Engineer to join our Mobile Response Team, supporting a portfolio of retail sites across the East region. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong building maintenance background who enjoys working independently, solving problems, and delivering high-quality repairs and maintenance services.

The Role
As a Building Fabric Engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across multiple client locations. No two days are the same, with responsibilities ranging from carpentry and joinery repairs to decorating, minor plumbing works, and general building fabric maintenance.

You will play a key role in ensuring client sites remain safe, compliant, and operational whilst delivering excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive building fabric maintenance.
  • Repair and maintain doors, fire doors, locks, windows, and flooring.
  • Complete minor plumbing repairs and general maintenance tasks.
  • Undertake painting, decorating, plaster patching, and refurbishment works.
  • Carry out ceiling repairs, roof leak investigations, and associated remedial works.
  • Conduct routine inspections and identify potential defects before they become major issues.
  • Accurately complete maintenance records and job reports.
  • Liaise professionally with customers and site stakeholders.
  • Participate in the on-call rota and support out-of-hours call-outs where required.
  • Work safely and in accordance with company health and safety procedures.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Previous experience within a Building Fabric, Maintenance, Facilities Management, or Property Services environment.
  • A recognised trade qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
  • Strong carpentry, joinery, and general building maintenance skills.
  • Experience carrying out reactive and planned maintenance works.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to work.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience

  • Plumbing qualifications or experience.
  • Exposure to facilities management contracts.
  • Experience working within retail or commercial environments.
  • Knowledge of multiple maintenance disciplines.
