CMM Programmer / Faro Operator – Defence Manufacturing
Stockport | Permanent | Quality Inspection
A globally recognised defence manufacturer in Stockport is looking for a CMM Programmer / Faro Operator to join its Quality team on a permanent basis.
This is a specialist, hands-on metrology role working on precision piece parts and assemblies in a quality-critical defence environment. You’ll be at the centre of dimensional inspection activity — supporting production and final inspection, working to demanding engineering standards and ensuring components meet specification first time.
The Role
• Carrying out mechanical inspection and alignment of precision assemblies and components produced in-house and by suppliers
• Setting up and operating metrology equipment including conventional CMMs and portable articulating arms such as Faro
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings to correctly set up parts and assemblies for measurement
• Applying Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) standards throughout
• Working with engineering teams to understand design intent and support quality decisions
• Clearly reporting measurement results to relevant stakeholders
• Providing proactive quality support and judgement to production teams
• Supporting and organising dimensional PPAP documentation through to customer approval
• Reviewing historical measurement data to determine appropriate calibration intervals
• Supporting physical inspection activities including assembly, PDI and FAT where required
• Occasionally supporting inspection activity at customer sites
• Maintaining a clean, safe working environment in line with EHS and quality procedures
What We’re Looking For
• Degree, HND, HNC or significant experience within an engineering environment
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with Faro and/or CMM equipment
• Experience with metrology software such as PolyWorks, Calypso or CAM2 Measure 10
• Strong attention to detail and a high standard of measurement accuracy
• Good IT skills including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Able to prioritise tasks and manage workload effectively
• Proactive, team-focused with strong problem-solving ability
• Experience within heavy fabrication is beneficial
• ERP or quality management system experience is advantageous
• Knowledge of ISO 9001/AQAP quality standards is desirable
• Understanding of quality assurance and non-conformance reporting is a bonus
• Full driving licence desirable
What’s on Offer
• Permanent role with a major defence engineering manufacturer
• Specialist position within a quality and dimensional inspection environment
• Hands-on work with Faro, CMM and advanced metrology equipment
• Exposure to precision defence manufacturing and complex engineering assemblies
• Opportunity to support both production and customer-site inspection activities
A permanent opportunity for an experienced dimensional inspector, CMM professional or Faro operator who wants to apply their skills on precision components and assemblies in a genuinely quality-critical engineering environment.
