About the Role
The Treasurer will play a key leadership role in safeguarding the Society's financial integrity and long-term sustainability. Working alongside the Management Committee, you will provide financial oversight, strategic guidance and constructive challenge, ensuring appropriate financial controls, reporting and governance are maintained.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the Society complies with its governing document, company law and relevant legislation.
- Help ensure the organisation's resources are used appropriately in pursuit of its objectives.
- Contribute to strategic direction, policy setting, goals and performance monitoring.
- Safeguard the Society's reputation, values and financial stability.
- Oversee the protection and management of organisational assets and investment of funds.
- Oversee, approve and present budgets, accounts and financial statements.
- Present regular financial reports to the Management Committee.
- Present the annual accounts at the AGM and clearly explain key financial matters.
- Provide financial insight and challenge to support sound organisational decision-making.
About You
- Financial qualifications and/or significant relevant financial experience; professional qualification desirable but not essential.
- Strong understanding of financial management, reporting and governance.
- Ability to analyse proposals and assess their financial implications.
- Sound independent judgement and strategic thinking.
- Confidence to provide constructive financial challenge where required.
- Understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities associated with a board role.
- Experience of organisational finance, fundraising or pension schemes would be advantageous.
- Able to work effectively as part of a Management Committee and contribute positively to collective decisions.
- Commitment to the Society's objectives and willingness to devote the necessary time and effort.
- Demonstrates integrity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
