Export Officer

Getting an order out of the door takes more than booking transport. The paperwork, delivery details and people involved all need to line up. As Export Officer for an engineering and manufacturing business in Sheffield, you'll bring those pieces together for UK and international shipments, helping ensure orders are dispatched correctly and on time.

You'll organise shipments, prepare export and customs documents, and coordinate with freight forwarders, hauliers and customers. This is broader than an export paperwork role: you'll be involved in the practical arrangements that keep both domestic and international orders moving, with direct contact across the people handling transport and delivery.

The challenge is managing several tasks without losing track of the details. In a busy, hands-on engineering environment, you'll keep shipping records and delivery information organised, deal with issues as they arise and help wherever needed within dispatch and shipping. The role combines careful administration with clear communication and practical follow-through, rather than treating each shipment as a paperwork exercise.

Key Responsibilities

• Organise UK and international shipments, coordinating transport arrangements with freight forwarders and hauliers so orders are dispatched accurately and on time.
• Prepare export documentation and customs paperwork, maintaining accurate shipping records and keeping the documents for each shipment organised and accessible.
• Liaise with colleagues, customers and transport providers about shipments and deliveries, communicating clearly and dealing with issues as they arise.
• Keep delivery information and outstanding paperwork up to date, providing practical support wherever needed to keep dispatch and shipping activity moving.

What We're Looking For

• You'll need an organised, reliable approach and the ability to manage several tasks at once without losing track of paperwork or delivery details.
• Clear written and verbal communication is essential, including the ability to read and prepare shipping information and communicate with customers and transport providers.
• You'll be competent using Microsoft Excel and Word for everyday administration; the role calls for practical capability rather than advanced software expertise.
• You'll be comfortable in a busy, hands-on engineering environment, with a helpful, flexible approach and a willingness to learn and get involved.
• Experience in exports, shipping or logistics is desirable, as is an understanding of export documentation and customs procedures, but neither is essential.
