Westmoore Recruitment is partnering with an established business to recruit a commercially minded Finance & Commercial Manager for this established and growing family business.


Operating across a number of different sectors the business is looking for an experienced finance professional who can take ownership of the company’s financial operations while contributing to its wider commercial development.



 The Opportunity

This is a varied, senior position combining financial leadership with commercial analysis and project work.


Approximately 60% of the role will focus on core finance, including management accounts, cash-flow forecasting, budgeting, statutory compliance, payroll and financial controls. The remaining time will involve commercial and business improvement projects covering pricing, new sites, energy, systems, funding, stock management and risk.


You will work closely with the Directors, providing accurate and commercially meaningful information to support decision-making. You will also manage and develop a Finance Assistant, strengthen financial processes and help introduce systems capable of supporting the company’s continued growth.


This position would suit someone who is hands-on, commercially aware and confident working in an owner-managed business where they can make a visible impact.


Key Responsibilities

- Prepare and present monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet, funds flow and a 13-week cash-flow forecast.

- Provide clear commentary on financial performance, risks, variances and recommended actions

- Maintain the annual budget, rolling forecasts and three-year business plan

- Take overall responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial records in Xero

- Oversee purchase and sales ledgers, bank reconciliations, expenses, credit control and supplier payments.

- Manage cash flow, banking arrangements, finance facilities and capital expenditure.

- Oversee stock accounting, valuation and stock-ageing reporting across the machinery business.

- Lead the introduction of an integrated stock and inventory management system.

- Ensure the finance function is ready to support future e-commerce activity.

- Take responsibility for payroll, pensions, VAT returns and other HMRC and statutory submissions.

- Manage the year-end process and relationship with external accountants, bankers and professional advisers.

- Maintain appropriate financial controls, procedures and segregation of duties.

- Manage, support and develop the Finance Assistant through clear delegation and regular one-to-one meetings.

- Develop pricing and margin models to support product, supplier and investment decisions

- Assess commercial opportunities, including new products, storage sites, energy projects and potential funding.

- Improve management information through dashboards, automation and better integration between business systems.

- Maintain the company’s risk register and business continuity arrangements.

- Present financial results and project updates at Board meetings.


About You

You will be an experienced finance professional who can combine strong technical ability with practical commercial judgement.


You should be comfortable working with detailed financial information while also stepping back to explain what the numbers mean for the wider business. You will be proactive in identifying risks, challenging inconsistencies and providing solutions before issues become problems.


You will ideally have:

  • A recognised accounting qualification or strong equivalent experience.
  • Previous responsibility for producing complete monthly management accounts.
  • Experience of budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management and financial analysis.
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll, VAT and statutory financial requirements.
  • Experience managing or developing a finance team member.
  • Excellent Excel skills and practical experience using Xero or a comparable accounting system.
  • The confidence to work directly with business owners and present financial information clearly.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to assess pricing, margin, investment and business opportunities.
  • Experience of improving financial systems, controls and reporting processes.
  • A proactive, organised and solutions-focused approach.
