About the role

Our client, a well-established UK consumer lending group, is looking for an experienced financial crime professional to lead a strategic review of its AML, fraud and financial crime control framework across its UK businesses.

Reporting to the Head of UK Regulatory Compliance and supported by an established compliance team, you’ll run a full assurance programme from start to finish. You’ll identify control weaknesses, recommend improvements and drive remediation through to completion.

This is a high-impact, autonomous role suited to someone who can step in, take ownership and deliver a complex project to deadline.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading enterprise-wide AML and fraud risk assessments
  • Reviewing financial crime governance, policies, procedures and controls
  • Designing and carrying out control effectiveness testing
  • Assessing compliance against UK financial crime regulations and regulatory expectations
  • Identifying gaps, producing clear and practical recommendations, and seeing remediation through to completion
  • Providing clear reporting and assurance opinions to senior management and the Board
  • Putting in place a sustainable monitoring and assurance framework for the long term

What you’ll need

  • Significant experience in AML, financial crime, compliance, risk or internal audit within financial services
  • Strong knowledge of UK financial crime regulation and regulatory expectations
  • A proven track record of running control reviews and assurance programmes
  • Experience leading remediation and control enhancement projects
  • Excellent stakeholder management and report-writing skills
  • The ability to work independently and deliver complex projects on time

Desirable

  • Experience in consumer credit, retail finance or asset finance
  • An ICA or ACAMS qualification, or equivalent
  • Experience in FCA-regulated firms and on regulatory remediation programmes
