Job Title: Instrumentation Fitter
Location: Leicester (Desford)
Pay Rate: £18.00 - £19.96 / hour

At Caterpillar Leicester, our Test and Validation Team builds, develops, and tests next-generation machinery to ensure it hits peak performance and durability before it ever reaches production. As an Instrumentation Fitter, you will tackle complex, hands-on projects-collaborating directly with Technicians and Test Engineers to set up machines (like BHL, CWL, and TH) for critical validation tests.
Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Machine Preparation: Prepare machines for test (e.g., hydraulic fittings, mechanical components).
Installation: Install instrumentation on a test machine.
Problem Solving: Contribute to the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems during machine setup for test and development.
Decommissioning: Return machines to their original, pre-test condition after a test.
Task Management: Balance multiple tasks effectively to deliver tests to strict deadlines.
Global Collaboration: Work as part of a global development team, with potential travel up to 15% (1-2 weeks at a time).
Communication: Coordinate smoothly with customers, team members, and other business units to understand internal and external needs.
Strong assembly and fitting skills alongside basic electrical skills.
Previous experience using instrumentation for testing purposes.
Knowledge and experience with equipment calibration and ISO9001 / ISO17025 standards.
Technical knowledge of construction machinery, off-highway, automotive, or a similar industry.
A self-starter mindset with the initiative to perform complex tasks.
Clear communication skills to explain technical information across different teams and units.
Experience working with various products, processes, or systems (e.g., engines, hydraulics, structures, cabs).
A sound understanding of mathematics.
Basic computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
