Intermediate / Senior Electrical Engineer

Location: Leicester Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

The Opportunity

I'm currently working with an established, independently owned MEP Design Consultancy based in Leicester, who are looking to appoint an Intermediate or Senior Electrical Engineer to join their growing team.

Following a significant increase in new project work, the business is looking to strengthen its electrical engineering team and bring in an additional engineer to support the delivery of its expanding project portfolio.

The consultancy provides mechanical, electrical and environmental engineering design services across a varied range of sectors, with a strong focus on delivering innovative, sustainable and commercially effective engineering solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a close-knit consultancy where you will have exposure to a variety of projects, work alongside experienced engineers and have the opportunity to develop your technical and project management skills.

The Role

You will be involved in the delivery of electrical building-services design across a range of projects, working closely with Mechanical Engineers, Sustainability Consultants, Directors and external project stakeholders.

Depending on your experience, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of projects, lead electrical design delivery and support the development of more junior engineers.

Responsibilities will include:

• Delivering electrical engineering design across a variety of building-services projects.
• Producing detailed electrical designs, including load assessments, lighting and small power layouts, cable sizing, protection studies and electrical infrastructure.
• Managing and coordinating electrical design through the various project stages, from concept through to construction.
• Working collaboratively with mechanical engineers and wider MEP disciplines to ensure coordinated design delivery.
• Attending design team meetings and liaising with clients, contractors and project stakeholders.
• Managing project workloads, programmes and deadlines to ensure successful delivery.
• Supporting project financial management and resource planning, depending on experience.
• Carrying out technical reviews and ensuring designs meet relevant quality standards.
• Supporting business development activities and maintaining positive client relationships.
• Working alongside sustainability engineers, providing technical input and supporting energy and carbon-related design work.
• Mentoring and supporting junior engineers, where appropriate.
• Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, Building Regulations, British Standards and industry guidelines.

About You

The business is open to speaking with both Intermediate and Senior Electrical Engineers, with responsibilities and salary reflecting your level of experience.

Ideally, you will have:

• A strong technical understanding of electrical building-services design.
• Experience with electrical distribution, lighting, small power, cable sizing and protection systems.
• Knowledge of Building Regulations, CIBSE guidelines, British Standards and IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience using industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Amtech and Dialux/Relux.
• A proactive approach with the ability to manage your own workload and take responsibility for project delivery.
• Chartered status or working towards chartership through CIBSE or the IET would be advantageous.

For more senior candidates, previous experience managing projects, liaising directly with clients and mentoring junior engineers would be beneficial.
