Internal Sales Engineer – Electrical Engineering

H2O Recruitment are working with an established UK engineering manufacturer to recruit an Internal Sales Engineer for its Leicester operation.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in electrical, electronic or control engineering who enjoys combining technical problem-solving with customer interaction.

You'll join an experienced technical sales team and become a key point of contact for customers, helping them understand and specify engineering solutions for a range of demanding industrial applications.

This isn't simply an order-processing or traditional internal sales position. You'll need to understand customers' technical requirements, interpret specifications and data, develop appropriate solutions and produce accurate quotations and tenders.

The Role

Working within the company you'll manage customer enquiries from initial contact through to quotation, order and ongoing customer support.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Handling technical customer enquiries by telephone, email and face-to-face
• Understanding and interpreting customers' technical and commercial requirements
• Developing preliminary technical solutions that can be accurately costed and quoted
• Preparing detailed quotations and tenders
• Following up quotations and helping convert opportunities into profitable orders
• Providing pre-sales technical advice and product information
• Building strong, long-term relationships with existing and prospective customers
• Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities
• Ensuring orders and technical information are passed efficiently to Engineering, Contracts and Production
• Keeping customers informed throughout the order process and resolving queries quickly
• Maintaining accurate records of enquiries, quotations, orders and customer activity
• Developing strong knowledge of the company's products and their applications
• Supporting colleagues across Engineering, Contracts and Production
• Attending occasional customer and site visits within the UK and internationally

What We're Looking For

You'll ideally already have experience in a technical sales, sales engineering, applications, estimating, proposals or customer-facing engineering environment.

You'll need:

• A good understanding of electrical engineering
• Ideally an HNC in Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering, or an equivalent apprenticeship/qualification
• Previous experience in a technical customer-facing position
• The ability to read, understand and interpret technical information
• A practical, solutions-focused approach to customer requirements
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to deal with customers at different levels
• Good commercial awareness and an interest in converting enquiries into orders
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Confidence using Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
• A self-motivated and proactive approach

A degree in Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering would be advantageous but isn't essential.

Experience dealing with large OEMs, engineering contractors or international customers would also be beneficial.
