Job description

Nottingham | ONSITE | Full Time | Permanent

Are you someone who enjoys figuring things out, learning new skills, and turning complex information into something clear and accurate?

We're recruiting for a Junior CAD Technician to join a growing engineering consultancy working on a range of infrastructure and energy-related projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in CAD, engineering design and 3D modelling.

This is not a traditional trainee role where you'll spend months shadowing an experienced colleague. You'll be joining a growing team in one of two newly created positions, meaning you'll need the confidence and curiosity to learn independently, ask questions, seek out knowledge and take ownership of your own development.

If you're naturally proactive, enjoy solving problems and aren't afraid to get stuck in, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role

Working alongside engineers and technical specialists, you'll help create accurate 2D drawings and 3D models used to support major engineering and infrastructure projects.

You'll work with a variety of technical information, including site surveys, laser scan data, engineering sketches and existing drawings, transforming them into detailed digital models and engineering documentation.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Producing and updating 2D engineering drawings and 3D models
  • Working with survey data, point clouds and technical information
  • Creating layouts, plans, elevations and detailed technical drawings
  • Checking dimensions, annotations and technical accuracy
  • Supporting engineering teams with project documentation
  • Maintaining organised drawing records and revision control
  • Assisting with site visits and surveying activities where required
  • Learning new software, processes and technical concepts as projects demand

About You

We're far more interested in attitude, aptitude and potential than years of experience.

You could be a college leaver, graduate, career starter or someone with a genuine interest in design, engineering or technical software looking for their first opportunity.

You'll likely have:
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Good general IT and computer skills
  • An interest in engineering, design or technical drawing
  • The ability to work methodically and accurately
  • Confidence communicating with colleagues and asking questions
  • A proactive mindset and willingness to take ownership of your learning

Most importantly, you'll be:

  • A self-starter who actively seeks solutions rather than waits for instruction
  • Comfortable working within a team of varying experience levels
  • Resourceful and confident learning new software and processes
  • Curious, motivated and keen to continuously develop your skills
  • Someone who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work

Desirable

  • Exposure to CAD, technical drawing or 3D modelling through education, hobbies, projects or work experience
  • Studies in Engineering, Product Design, Construction, Mathematics or a related discipline
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or similar design software

What's In It For You? An opportunity to join a growing technical consultancy, Exposure to live engineering and infrastructure projects, Training in CAD, 3D modelling and industry-leading software, Long-term career progression opportunities, Supportive and collaborative team environment, Free on-site parking, Pension scheme, Cycle to work scheme and Sick pay.

If you're looking for an opportunity where your attitude and potential are valued as much as your experience, and you have the drive to build a successful career in engineering design and CAD, we'd love to hear from you.
