Sixth Form Learning Mentor - Watford

Location: Watford, Hertfordshire
Daily Rate: £170 per day
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: 32.5 hours per week
Contract: Term Time

Prospero Teaching are looking for an experienced and confident Sixth Form Learning Mentor to join a successful secondary school in Watford.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience supporting 16-19-year-old students, combining academic mentoring, pastoral support and supervision of independent study.



The Role

As a Sixth Form Learning Mentor, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group mentoring to Sixth Form students

  • Support students with academic progress, attendance, punctuality and engagement

  • Work with students who may be underachieving or facing barriers to learning

  • Help students develop effective revision, organisation, time-management and independent study skills

  • Supervise students during independent and directed study sessions

  • Support SEND and disadvantaged students to overcome barriers to achievement

  • Encourage confidence, resilience and independence

  • Work closely with Sixth Form leaders, teachers, tutors and careers staff

  • Support students preparing for university, apprenticeships, employment and further education

  • Help coordinate enrichment activities, external speakers and opportunities for Sixth Form students



The Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience as a:

  • Sixth Form Learning Mentor

  • Academic Mentor

  • Pastoral Mentor

  • Student Support Officer

  • Learning Mentor

  • Sixth Form Support Officer

  • Progress Mentor

  • College Learning Mentor

  • Higher Level Teaching Assistant / HLTA with post-16 experience

You should have strong communication skills, the ability to build positive relationships with young people and confidence supporting students aged 16-19.

Experience within a Sixth Form, college or post-16 setting would be highly advantageous, as would experience supporting SEND, disadvantaged students or young people with barriers to learning.

A degree or Level 4 qualification is desirable but not essential for candidates with strong relevant experience.
