Legal Cashier – Client Account

SF Partners are seeking an experienced Legal Cashier to join the finance team of a well established law firm based in Colaville.

This role focuses on client account management, encompassing payment processing, maintaining accurate client ledgers, and completing daily bank reconciliations. You will collaborate closely with the Head of Finance, fee earners, and support teams to ensure client funds are managed accurately and in compliance with the SRA Accounts Rules.

• Process client account receipts, payments and transfers
• Allocate incoming funds to the correct client matters
• Prepare and process CHAPS, Faster Payments and BACS transactions
• Verify payment requests and supporting documentation
• Manage client-to-client, client-to-office and office-to-client transfers
• Post transactions accurately onto the legal accounting system
• Complete daily client bank reconciliations
• Investigate discrepancies and unreconciled transactions
• Review client ledgers to identify debit, dormant or residual balances
• Support client account housekeeping and ledger review exercises
• Maintain accurate records and audit trails
• Escalate any potential breaches or irregularities to the Head of Finance or COFA
• Assist with information requests for audits and accountant’s reports

Essential skills and experience:

• Previous experience as a Legal Cashier or within a legal finance team
• Practical experience processing client account transactions
• Proven ability to complete bank reconciliations accurately
• Good understanding of the SRA Accounts Rules
• Experience using legal accounting or practise management software
• Exceptional attention to detail and high level of accuracy
• Confidence to query payments or request further information when necessary
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel

Desirable: Experience with conveyancing or probate transactions, conducting residual balance reviews, or holding an AAT qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.
