Job description

We are looking for an experienced Male Support Worker to join our Adult Services team in Kinson, providing high-quality, person-centred support to a gentleman with complex care needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is compassionate, reliable and committed to helping the people we support live happy, fulfilling and independent lives.

Please note: Autism Unlimited does not provide visa sponsorship.

The role

As a Support Worker, you’ll work alongside Mikey in his own home in Kinson, getting to know him as an individual and supporting him to communicate, make choices and enjoy the things that matter most to him.

Mikey has his own unique ways of expressing himself and you’ll play an important role in understanding his communication and helping him to be heard. He uses a combination of visual supports, PECS, signs, gestures and a digital communication aid, so patience, attentiveness and a willingness to learn are key.

Life with Mikey is varied and full of opportunities for meaningful experiences. You might spend one day exploring the New Forest, enjoying a coffee and cake at a local café, playing football, listening to music or getting stuck into a puzzle. You’ll encourage Mikey to try new things, build his independence and be part of his local community.

Mikey receives 2:1 support, so you’ll always be working as part of a team. Together, you’ll provide consistent, person-centred support with everything from personal care, medication and preparing meals to getting out, having fun and working towards personal goals.

Alongside supporting Mikey day to day, you’ll play an important role in maintaining his support records, including care plans, finances, appointments and medication records. You’ll also follow his individual support plan, ensuring he feels comfortable, happy and supported, while using your own skills and life experience to encourage independence and develop good life skills within the community.

Hours of work - Full time

You would be required to work a mixture of shift which will vary between 7am - 10pm, on a 2 week rolling rota. This will include working alternative weekends.
