We are working with a large, well-established manufacturing site in Leicester operating within the FMCG and industrial manufacturing sector. The site runs serious, heavy-duty plant – from large industrial boilers and compressors through to conveyors, flow wrappers and robotics – with a strong focus on planned maintenance, reliability and continuous improvement.

This is a great opportunity for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer from a heavy industry background to earn £56,800 on a predominantly Monday to Friday days pattern. You will join an established maintenance team, keeping critical plant running and taking ownership of mechanical improvements that make a real difference to downtime.

The role would suit a hands-on fitter who enjoys working on big kit, takes pride in fixing things properly first time rather than firefighting, and is happy to pass on their experience to trainee fitters and apprentices.

Responsibilities of a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer:

• Provide mechanical engineering support to production, responding quickly to breakdowns to minimise downtime
• Carry out planned and preventative maintenance on heavy plant including boilers, compressors, conveyors and packaging lines
• Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out root cause analysis to prevent repeat failures
• Identify and implement improvements to reliability, efficiency and downtime
• Manage critical spares with an eye on budget, ensuring the right parts are on the shelf
• Record and compile maintenance data to support planning
• Support and mentor trainee fitters and apprentices, working safely at all times

Skills & Qualifications of a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer:

• Level 3 mechanical engineering qualification (NVQ, HNC, time-served apprenticeship or equivalent)
• Mechanical maintenance experience within a medium to heavy industry environment – e.g. steel, metals, paper, glass, chemicals, heavy engineering or large-scale manufacturing
• Strong mechanical fault-finding skills across rotating plant, hydraulics and pneumatics
• A proactive approach to maintenance and a willingness to support less experienced engineers
• PLC knowledge would be an advantage but is not essential
