Job description

A Role Where the Smallest Steps Matter

Teaching Personnel is recruiting an experienced Nursery Assistant for a specialist SEND setting in Yeovil. This is a permanent opportunity for someone who understands that early learning does not look the same for every child.

The setting supports pupils with severe and profound learning difficulties, including children who may also have autism, medical, physical and sensory needs. Communication and interaction are an important part of the provision, and every pupil has an EHCP.

Your Role

You will work closely with teaching and support staff to create an engaging, nurturing and structured environment.

  • Supporting children through play, sensory activities and early learning.
  • Encouraging communication, interaction and positive relationships.
  • Providing individual support based around each child’s needs and abilities.
  • Helping children become more confident and independent.
  • Following established routines and individual support strategies.
  • Assisting pupils with their wider care and development where required.
  • Observing progress and sharing important information with the wider team.
  The Person We Need

We are looking for someone with previous experience supporting children with SEND, ideally within Early Years or a specialist provision. You will need to be confident coming into the setting and hitting the ground running.

These young learners need adults who are warm, attentive, reassuring and consistent. You should be able to read non-verbal cues, adapt activities when something is not working and remain patient when communication takes time.

Above all, you need to recognise the significance of the smaller achievements, whether that is making a choice, engaging with an activity, communicating a need or developing a new skill.

  Why Teaching Personnel?
