Pastoral Behaviour Mentor

Job description

Pastoral Behaviour Mentor - Knutsford

Long-Term | Full-Time | Secondary Alternative Provision

A specialist secondary alternative provision in Knutsford is looking for a Pastoral Behaviour Mentor to join their team on a long-term basis, with the potential for a permanent position for the right person.

The provision supports secondary-aged pupils who may have experienced challenges within mainstream education, helping them overcome barriers to learning, develop confidence and reconnect with education.

As a Pastoral Behaviour Mentor, you'll play an important role in helping pupils build positive relationships, develop emotional regulation and rediscover their confidence in themselves and their ability to learn.

The Role

You'll provide 1:1 and small-group pastoral support, working closely with teachers and the wider pastoral team to create a calm, consistent and positive learning environment.

You'll support pupils to:

• Build positive relationships with adults and peers
• Develop confidence, resilience and self-belief
• Re-engage with lessons and learning
• Develop emotional regulation and self-awareness
• Understand and manage their emotions
• Develop positive attitudes towards education
• Recognise their strengths, interests and talents
• Celebrate achievements and recognise progress
• Develop the confidence and skills needed for their future

Education at the Heart of the Role

This role is about more than behaviour support. You'll help young people understand the barriers affecting their education and develop positive strategies to manage challenges, regulate their emotions and engage more successfully with learning.

Working alongside teachers, you'll encourage pupils to reconnect with education, develop curiosity and recognise their own strengths and potential.

The aim is to create an environment where pupils feel safe, understood and supported, giving them the confidence to learn, participate and make progress.

Your Experience

We're looking for someone who can build strong professional relationships with young people, remain calm and consistent, and genuinely believe in their potential.

Experience could include:

• Teaching Assistant or SEN roles
• Pastoral or Behaviour Support
• Alternative Provision
• SEMH settings
• Youth Work or Mentoring
• Sports Coaching
• Children's Care or Residential Support
• Support or Outreach Work

We're Looking For Someone Who Can

• Build positive, professional relationships with young people
• Inspire pupils to re-engage with education
• Encourage confidence, curiosity and a love of learning
• Support SEMH and emotional regulation needs
• Understand and respond positively to challenging behaviour
• Work effectively alongside teachers and pastoral staff
• Remain calm, patient and consistent
• Celebrate progress and encourage success
• Be a positive role model

Why This Role?

For some young people, the right adult can completely change their experience of education.

You could be the person who helps a pupil rebuild their confidence, discover their strengths and realise that they can succeed in education.

If you're passionate about education and want to help young people reconnect with learning, develop confidence and build a more positive future, we'd love to hear from you.
