Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule and coordinate production activities across the machine shop.

  • Manage and support a small team of experienced CNC and conventional machinists.

  • Prioritise workloads according to customer requirements, production capacity and delivery deadlines.

  • Monitor work in progress, identifying potential bottlenecks and implementing practical solutions.

  • Liaise with management, purchasing and other departments to ensure materials and resources are available.

  • Oversee daily workshop activities, ensuring machines and personnel are utilised effectively.

  • Maintain high standards of quality, productivity and health and safety.

  • Review production schedules and respond to changing customer priorities.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce lead times.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to the workshop team when required.

About You

Essential experience:

  • Previous experience in production planning, workshop management or manufacturing supervision.

  • Strong understanding of CNC machining and general engineering processes.

  • Experience coordinating workloads and managing skilled engineering personnel.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and understand manufacturing requirements.

  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • A practical, solutions-focused approach to production challenges.

  • Confident communication and leadership skills.

Desirable experience:

  • Background in heavy engineering, precision machining, steel processing or fabrication.

  • Knowledge of CNC milling, turning and large-component machining.

  • Experience working with low-volume, bespoke or batch manufacturing.

  • Familiarity with production planning systems, ERP or MRP software.

What's on Offer?

  • Competitive salary of approximately £50,000 per annum.

  • Permanent, days-based position, Monday to Friday.

  • Opportunity to lead an established team of skilled engineers.

  • Varied and technically interesting manufacturing projects.

  • A stable, specialist engineering environment.
