Project Planner – Engineering & Construction

Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus company car or car allowance
Job type: Permanent, full-time

PW Construction Recruitment is recruiting an experienced Project Planner for a specialist engineering business delivering data centre, critical infrastructure and construction projects.

You will develop and manage programmes from tender and pre-construction through to delivery and completion, working closely with Project Managers, engineering teams, procurement and subcontractors.

This opportunity would suit a planning professional with experience on large-scale engineering or construction projects who is confident producing detailed schedules and helping teams manage programme risks.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing tender programmes to support bids and pre-construction activities.

  • Developing baseline programmes, detailed schedules and resource-loaded plans.

  • Monitoring progress against contractual milestones and identifying critical-path activities.

  • Producing short-term and long-term look-ahead programmes.

  • Identifying delays, dependencies, constraints and programme risks.

  • Developing recovery programmes with project teams.

  • Coordinating programme inputs from engineering, procurement, suppliers and subcontractors.

  • Preparing weekly and monthly progress reports for clients and senior management.

  • Managing programme revisions and maintaining accurate progress and change records.

  • Supporting delay analysis and extension-of-time submissions where required.

  • Monitoring resource requirements and supporting production planning where needed.

Candidate Requirements

At least five years’ project planning experience is required, gained within engineering, construction, infrastructure or industrial projects.

You should have experience producing baseline programmes, resource-loaded schedules and critical-path analysis, alongside monitoring live project performance and developing recovery plans.

Knowledge of project controls, earned value management, programme risk, delay analysis and change management is important.

Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills are essential, together with the ability to manage competing priorities within multidisciplinary teams.

Planning Software

Strong practical experience with Primavera P6, Asta Powerproject or Microsoft Project is essential.

Advanced Primavera P6 and/or Asta Powerproject skills, together with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Project, would be particularly valuable.

You should be confident using planning software to produce detailed programmes, progress updates, critical-path analysis and recovery schedules.

Desirable Experience

Experience in data centres, critical infrastructure, M&E / MEP, building services, critical power, industrial engineering or modular construction would be advantageous.

Experience supporting projects from tender through to completion would also be beneficial.

A degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline would be welcome.

Package & Opportunity

The package includes a salary of up to £60,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus a company car or car allowance.

You will work on technically complex, high-value projects, with professional training, long-term career development and regular involvement with senior project and pre-construction teams.

Apply with your up-to-date CV for a confidential discussion.
