Senior Accounts Assistant

Job description

I am currently working with a well-established organisation in Cambourne who are looking to recruit an Accounts Assistant to take responsibility for the day-to-day finance function.

This is a varied, hands-on role that would suit someone who enjoys having ownership of a broad range of finance duties rather than being one small part of a larger finance team. You will be responsible for the day-to-day bookkeeping and transactional finance activities, working across both accounts payable and accounts receivable.

Key responsibilities:

• Processing supplier invoices and maintaining accurate purchase ledger records
• Raising and processing customer invoices and maintaining the sales ledger
• Allocating receipts and monitoring outstanding customer balances
• Processing supplier payments and assisting with payment runs
• Reconciling supplier statements and resolving any discrepancies
• Processing employee expenses and maintaining supporting documentation
• Completing regular bank reconciliations
• Maintaining accurate bookkeeping and financial records
• Responding to supplier and customer queries
• Assisting with routine month-end activities and reconciliations
• Dealing with general finance administration as required
• Taking ownership of the day-to-day transactional finance function

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous experience in an accounts or finance role, ideally with exposure to both AP and AR
• Good practical bookkeeping and transactional finance experience
• Experience of working independently or in a standalone/small finance environment
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
• Good Excel skills and confidence using financial systems
• Good communication skills and the ability to deal confidently with routine finance queries
• A hands-on approach and willingness to get involved across all areas of the day-to-day finance function

This is a good opportunity for an Accounts Assistant or Bookkeeper who enjoys a varied role and would welcome the opportunity to take ownership of a broad range of day-to-day finance responsibilities. The role would particularly suit someone who has worked in a small finance team or standalone finance position and enjoys being involved in all aspects of the transactional finance function.
